Angelina Jolie On the November 2008 Cover of W Magazine
October 10, 2008

Angelina Jolie is seen breastfeeding one of her twins on the November 2008 cover of W Magazine, as photographed by Brad Pitt.
Angelina was photographed in mid-August in the backyard of their French Chateau. All of the children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox — are said to appear in the spread, which hits stands on October 21.
Angelina Jolie reveals that she had only intended to adopt children – until her love for Brad Pitt changed her mind.
Here are some quotes from the mag via People magazine:
“I think one of the life changing things that he did, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant. I never felt that it was the right thing to do,” Jolie, 33, tells W magazine, in an article featuring photos taken by Pitt of her breastfeeding.
But when she saw Pitt with adopted children Maddox and Zahara, “I knew that he would never see them as different, and that gave me a certain peace,” Jolie says.
“I suppose I just looked at him and loved him and just felt open to (getting pregnant),” she says. “I suddenly wanted to. It’s one of those things you can’t explain.”
Now, after having three children with Pitt, including 3-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne and 2-year-old Shiloh, “I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world,” says Jolie. “It taught me a lot about life, just the process of it, and now we have three other beautiful children that wouldn’t otherwise be here.”

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie shared the first photos of three-week-old Knox and Vivienne at their home in France and revealed how they and their four older children, Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and two-year-old Shiloh, are finding life since the twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline arrival.
“It is chaos,” laughs the Hollywood actress on life at the sprawling Chateau Miraval in Provence, “but we are managing it and having a wonderful time.”
“We made a decision to have a big family and support each other to make it work.”
How are the rest of the siblings handling the latest additions to the family?
“Shiloh calls them her babies. She and Z pick out their clothes and help change and hold them,” Jolie tells People.
“It’s sweet–they are little mommies,” Pitt adds, “This is Mad’s fourth/fifth time becoming an older bro. He’s asking us when we can have more.”
How Mommy and Daddy reacted when they found out they were having twins:
“We were in shock and could not stop laughing.” She also sets the record straight on tabloid reports that the twins were conceived via IVF. “If they had been conceived through IVF, we would have been happy to discuss it,” says Jolie. “But we have been fortunate never to have had fertility problems.”
Brangelina on the birth:
- When he first saw Knox, and Vivienne a minute later, Pitt felt “An awe words fail to describe.”
“I knew they would be premature, so when I saw they were big and screaming with healthy lungs, I was at peace,” Jolie says.
More details on the babies:
“Viv is proving to resemble Ange in spirit, attitude and physicality,” says Pitt. “And Knox, a bit of me.” Pitt also shares how they decided on the twins’ names: “The name Vivienne came to us early, as if she named herself–she has always been Viv. And Marcheline is to honor Angie’s mother. Knox came soon after. It is a family name, my grandfather’s. Léon is a classic French name.” Jolie explains how her late mother, Marcheline, inspires her as a mom. “My mom loved being a mom and made sure her children knew every day how much joy we brought to her. I hope to give that to my kids.”
