Inspiration
Baroque Pyjama: The Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2009 collection originates from
experimenting with menswear pyjamas and fabrics. In doing so, Dolce & Gabbana returns to
its origins: Sicily and the richness of the Baroque period.
An aristocratic fashion mixes the elegance of Luchino Visconti’s cinematography with hand
crafted tailoring. Innovation is met with the study of geometric form: round, rectangular and
pentagonal shapes give the clothes a new structure in terms of silhouette and proportion.
Fabrics and materials
Mikado, silk, satin duchesse, brocade, fringed chiffon, crinoline detailing, plumetille veil,
floral tulle applique, plastic, satin and brocade patchwork.
Forms
Geometric: circle, rectangle, pentagon.
Dresses, jackets and skirts give the illusion of being sculpted. Structure is given by external
seaming while still remaining light and soft to the touch.
Colours
Black, bordeaux, blue, light-blue, cream, pink, gold and brown.
Accessories
Jewelled belts, inspired by a mix of family jewels discovered at home, are applied on canetè
ribbons.
Hair ornaments inspired by a mix of jewels and papillons made of ancient embroidery,
flowers and stones.
Finale
Metallic netted evening dresses adorned with fabric hand-constructed flowers.
Tracklist
